Cylburn Nature Museum

The Nature Museum is now located in the renovated garage of the Carriage House.   It combines the exhibits from the Bird Museum and the Nature Museum into an accessible hands-on learning environment.  The Cylburn Nature Museum contains a collection of Maryland birds, most of which are mounted in habitat arrangements, and collections of bird eggs from the late 1800’s, butterflies and moths, rocks and minerals, fossils and seashells, games, and habitat dioramas.   Visitors are invited and encouraged to touch many of the items.  The Cylburn Nature Museum is open on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Please call 410- 367-2217 for further information.

Wildflowers of Maryland

The Mansion houses a collection of water color paintings of Maryland wildflowers. The paintings, located on the first floor of the Mansion in Room D, has been a project of the  Conservation Committee of the Gibson Island Garden Club. Over 100 plants are depicted – from Jack-in-the Pulpit and yellow Trout lily to round-leaved Hepatica. Ten members of the Gibson Island Garden Club participated in the project. The names of the artists are found on a plaque in Room D.

The mansion is open to the public Monday thru Friday 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Closed weekends.

Trail tours and garden tours for school classes, scout troops, garden clubs and other interested groups are led by the Association's volunteers. The Cylburn Arboretum Association and cooperating groups also present a series of open houses with lectures, demonstrations, exhibits and workshops on horticultural and related topics.
